The Moors A Scottish Experience

Rolling mounds. Pot bunkers. Few trees in sight.
What might look like a golf course in Scotland is actually The Moors Golf and Lodging, located in Milton, Fla., just a short distance from Pensacola.
The par-70, 6,800-yard course is a picturesque design and for 11 years was the home to the Champions Tour event, the Emerald Coast Classic (named the Blue Angels Classic for the final two years), featuring winners like Raymond Floyd, Lee Trevino and Gil Morgan.
“We are the only course in the area to host a Champions Tour event, a Nike Tour event and a Qualifying school event for the Champions Tour,” said Tom White, Director of Marketing.
Another unique feature about the club is the lodging part. Golfers can stay overnight on site for as low at $52 a night. Guests receive $10 off on a round of golf and a free continental breakfast.
The lodge features private rooms with double beds and private baths.
Amenities include a coffee maker, microwave oven, wet bar and cable television.
“It is unique,” White said. “Few golf courses have lodging right on site.”
The course itself is a fun, yet challenging test for low handicappers and hackers.
Most of the greens are large with undulations, making for challenging reads and putts.
“Golfers love this course because it’s a links-style course,” White said.
“It emulates holes from Scotland.”
The par-3 third hole is designed after the Postage Stamp hole in Troon, Scotland. The finishing 18th hole requires the golfer to avoid bunkers on the tee shot, as well as the approach shot into the green.
The club includes The Grille restaurant, a large clubhouse and fully stocked pro shop.
Another feature is the Moors Ultimate Golf School, which features ModelGolf, a scientific technique from CompuSport®, a company dedicated to optimizing human performance through research and the application of scientific biomechanical principles.
“We can take your height, weight, hand size and shoe size and take a picture of your swing and compare it to similar pro,” White said.
The club is located just 20 minutes from downtown Pensacola and the Airport, north of Exit 22 off I-10.
