Winter Residents Have Fun at Pensacola State College

“When I get into town in November, I just call about the aquatics classes and they say, ‘come on in!’ Everyone who works at the pool is really nice and helpful.”

For the past eight years, Nancy Brown of Wooster, Ohio, has spent several months each winter in the Pensacola area enjoying warm days walking on the beach, golfing with her husband, and participating in church activities.

On those occasional days when the sunny Gulf Coast is not so sunny, Nancy still enjoys one of her favorite winter pastimes rain or shine – the Aqua Dynamics exercise class at Pensacola State College’s indoor pool.

“I love the pool and I look forward to the aquatics classes at PSC,” Nancy says. “I keep coming back because the water is always the right temperature, the instructor is great, and the staff so accommodating.

Like Nancy, many Snowbirds include recreation and leisure courses at Pensacola State on their agenda of fun things to do.

“PSC welcomes our winter residents both as students and instructors. We even offer several workshops and courses that can be completed in two to four weeks to better accommodate their schedules,” says Frances Yeo, the coordinator of Continuing Education at PSC.

“Taking an enrichment class is a no-pressure way to learn something new, have fun, and meet some of our local residents as well as other Snowbirds,” Yeo says.

From French to Floral Design, Computers to Celestial Navigation, Genealogy to Gluten Free Diets, the college offers more than 100 courses covering an array of interests.

For the convenience of those wintering on the beach, classes are offered at the PSC South Santa Rosa Center, 5075 Gulf Breeze Pkwy; and at two new locations near Perdido Key: Perdido Key Community Center, 15500 Perdido Key Dr.; and Perdido Community Center, 13660 Innerarity Point Rd.

Other locations include: PSC Pensacola campus, 1000 College Blvd.; PSC Milton campus, 5988 Hwy. 90; PSC Warrington campus, 5555 West Hwy. 98; Gull Point Community Center, 7000 Spanish Trail; and Pensacola Bridge Center, 1200 North 12th Ave.
