WALTON COUNTY SNOWBIRDS ARE LEARNING

The Walton County Snowbirds (WCS) currently have 722 members and many more new members this year.  We are ahead of our 2023 membership numbers.  Why?  Because we have fun in Florida!

As a retiree and snowbird, you may get tired of being asked, “what do you do all day?”  The WCS have so many activities that our calendars are pretty busy!  For those who love the outdoors and/or exercise, offer golf, basketball, pickleball, bowling, aerobics, line dancing, water aerobics, bike riding, tennis, and ballroom dancing.  Interested in music and art?  We have two ukulele groups, an art group, a creative writing group, and a crafts group.  Don’t forget our very active card groups that include bridge, hand and foot, poker, euchre and Mah-Jongg.  The book club and discussion groups are also very popular.  No doubt there is something for everyone!

Our upcoming February social events include:

  • Friday, February 16 – Social Dinner at Auston’s on 98
  • Wednesday, February 21 – Biloxi (IP Casino) Bus Trip
  • Wednesday, February 21 – Blood Drive at Destin Commons

This week’s highlight is the WCS Bowling League …a favorite for snowbirds!!  This is a fun league to be with other snowbirds as you spend 2-3 hrs bowling w/different teams.  There are 12 teams of 4 people.  The cost is $12.00/person and if you don’t have your own bowling shoes or ball, they are free.  Most members commit for 8 weeks, but some come later so we work them in or make a new team.  Some members leave early so we always in need of more bowlers.  A big thank you to Activity Leaders Judy & Keith Kremers and Bill Bentley for their leadership in organizing this fun activity!   Snowbirds who want to bowl need to be at Hurricane Lanes by 11:30am as practice starts at 11:50am with league bowling at 12:00 noon.  Not a bowler, stop by and cheer them on!!

Update: January 16, 2024

Walton County Snowbirds are a Social Flock

As of our most recent registration and snowbird gathering on January 11, the Walton County Snowbirds (WCS) has 574 members! The snowbird gathering offered samples by local vendors, numerous door prizes donated by the area businesses who support the snowbirds, a 50/50 drawing, and entertainment by Rich McDuff (who got the entire crowd chanting and clapping in a few group songs). A fun time was had by all!

We have two social events coming up this week for the WCS members. On Wednesday, January 17 there is a Biloxi “Boomtown” Casino Bus Trip planned and on Friday, January 19, there is a social dinner at the Crab Trap. Members will have a fee to pay for the bus trip and those attending the dinners will receive separate bills for their meals. Anyone interested in attending these events are encouraged to sign up at a registration or by contacting the event coordinator.

Are you single and looking for other singles to mingle with while on the Emerald Coast this winter? The Walton County Snowbirds have a very active singles group. The members meet at various times in January and February for happy hours and for lunch after the General Meetings which are listed below.
