The 2018 Americana Music at The Lodge concerts at Camp Helen State Park will kick off on Saturday, January 6th with The Currys. These young men are a delight to see, hear and simply enjoy. Americana Pop in its finest form. It will be a great way to begin another season of some of the best Americana Music in the country.
The second concert in the series on January 20 will feature sultry voiced Sally Spring and partner Ted Lyons from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Sally creates magical moments with her beautiful lyrics and haunting melodies and dulcet tones while Ted Lyons accompanies her with percussive guitar and sweet harmonies.
The third concert, February 3, features our very own hosts of the series, Mike & Maggie McKinney collectively known as Lucky Mud. This duo plays SwampyTonk and Folkabilly, a creative ensemble of many forms of music including Folk/Honky Tonk/Blues/Country/Pop/Florida Swamp beats.
The fourth concert on February 17 presents one of the best guitarists, singer/songwriter and musical novelists in the country, Brian Smalley of Apopka, Florida. The energy and style of this performer is incomparable.
The last of the Americana Music in the Lodge concerts will be a sweet adieu on March 3 with the trio 2PM from South Florida. The sweetest harmonies, some of the most beautiful lyrics and instrumentation in the country will make this last concert a bitter sweet finale to the 2018 series.
Come prepared to buy CDs and merchandise from all of these performers. You will want to take a little piece of the evenings performance home with you.
Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and the doors open at 6p.m. You will be given a number upon your arrival at the lodge and the opportunity to select your seat by placing your number on a chair. Then, feel free to roam around Camp Helen and enjoy the beauty of our park. From the view of the pristine waters of Lake Powell, one of the world’s largest barrier dune lakes, to the out buildings that create the “camp” aspect of the park and the natural beauty, even in the dead of a Florida winter, you can appreciate the wonders that make Camp Helen a very special place in the heart of the Florida Panhandle.
While the concerts are free, the Friends of Camp Helen request a donation to help with the continuance of the series and special projects that benefit the park. Refreshments will be available for a donation.
