Canada Day: The largest single gathering of Canadian Snowbirds is set for Feb. 9 and for the second year will be staged at the Wyndham Bay Point Resort in Panama City. One day only ticket sales will be available from 9 a.m. – Noon Jan. 21 in the lobby of the resort. The colorful event opens at 3 p.m. with a parade of flags (including one from the U.S.), led by bagpipers and introductions from local dignitaries. The national anthems from Canada and the U.S. are sung by all and the representatives parade through the room. American friends are welcome to join in the fun and fellowship. WALTON COUNTY SNOWBIRDS: The first meeting for the 2013-14 season is Dec. 11 at the United Methodist Church , 200 Beach Drive, Destin, Fla. Registration is 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25 at Faith Assembly Hall, 306 South Geronimo St., Miramar Beach, Fla. and runs weekly on Mondays through Feb. 3. Season dues are $9. You can also register 30 minutes before each meeting. Volunteers are needed in many areas and this is a great to meet new people and make friends. Defuniak Springs: The quaint North Walton County town known worldwide for its annual Chautauqua will sponsor a Snowbird Day Jan. 16 with guided tours, light luncheon, special presentations and more. Destin: The club opened its “Roost” and sponsored its first registration Nov. 18 at the Destin Community Center, its winter home. Upcoming registration dates include Dec. 2 and 9 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The club’s “Big Registration” is 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Jan. 6. Dues are $8 per person. Meetings are 10 a.m. Dec. 3 and 10. The first 2014 meeting date is Jan. 7 with two sessions sponsored: 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Each weekly meeting features live entertainment. The club sponsors many activities including mixers, golf, fashion show, craft show, bowling, casino trips, chorale and Christmas party. Pensacola Beach: Dates for Pensacola Beach Snowbird Roosts have been tentatively set for Jan. 15, Feb. 12 and March 12 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. with location to be announced in our January edition.
Perdido Key: There will be three Snowbird roosts this season at the Perdido Bay Community Center – Jan. 9 at 11 a.m., Feb. 13 at noon and 1 p.m., March 6 at 11 a.m. Enjoy lunch for only $4 per person, live entertainment and giveaways from local vendors. MISSOURI: The Missouri Snowbird Club meets January through March. Regular meetings are held at 9 a.m. every other Wednesday at the Phoenix V Condos conference room. Bi-weekly breakfast meetings have been moved to 9 a.m. at Cobalt’s 28099 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach. The price is $10 plus tip. Members participate in a golf scrambles every Wednesday afternoon. The Eighth Annual Trivia Night Party will take place Feb. 8, 2014 at the Orange Beach Event Center at the Wharf.
