Patriotic music will fill the air when the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Sounds by the Sea concert Memorial Day weekend. The free, outdoor concert will be held in Harrison County on Saturday, May 25, 2019, in Gulfport’s Jones Park. An encore performance will be held in Jackson County on Sunday, May 26, 2019, in Pascagoula’s Beach Park.
Coast Big Band will be the pre-show for the Harrison County performance and the Singing River Chorale will be at our Jackson County location, those concerts start at 6 p.m. followed by your symphony orchestra at 7 p.m. and conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.
Under the direction of conductor Dr. Peter Rubardt, the orchestra will perform musical selections in honor of our military and their families. Selections will include the “Armed Forces Salute,” “Gardens of Stone,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” “America the Beautiful,” “1812 Overture,” “Washington Post March,” “Semper Fidelis,” and “Entrance of the Gladiators.” Additional songs including selections from Aaron Copland, John Phillip Sousa and more!
Lawn seating begins at 5PM and pre-concert entertainment begins at 6PM. The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 7PM for a one-hour performance.
Parking for Saturday’s performance in Gulfport is north of Highway 90. Crossing locations will be marked by police. Complimentary CTA shuttles will be provided to those parked across from the Federal courthouse and at the CTA parking garage.
In Pascagoula on Sunday, shuttles will transport the public from The Point and Ingalls East Bank parking on Ingalls Avenue.
