Retired newsman, military veteran and Nebraska native Kent Cockson discovered the Alabama Gulf Coast the old-fashioned way – he married into it. Cockson is the author of a new book “100 Years of Foley”, hometown of his wife, the former Sylvia Staton.

Randy and Frances Brewer retired permanently along the Gulf Coast four years ago. Randy grew up in cold and snowy Chicago, Ill., where he still has family while Frances hails from the milder winters of Houston, Texas.

Although they have been traveling to the Alabama Gulf Coast for some 20 years, Leanna and Mel Trombley finally made the decision this season to become actual “Snowbirds.”
The Trombleys, both 63, hail from Harrisville, N.Y., located near Syracuse, N.Y. , where winters can be harsh.
